Under the Radar Global Partners

Under the Radar’s Global Partner program is an initiative that gives audiences worldwide free access to the Under the Radar Festival. Over the last 17 years, UTR has shared artists and exchanged events with many different venues and festivals around the world. This year we hope to recognize the many institutions that support independent theater by inviting them to share the UTR 2021 virtual line-up with their audiences. In these dark days during isolation, it is important to acknowledge the community of organizations that keep contemporary performance alive. The 2021 UTR Global Partners include The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi (Abu Dhabi, UAE), ArtsEmerson (Boston, MA), Fusebox Festival (Austin, TX), Künstlerhaus Mousonturm (Frankfurt, Germany), Manchester International Festival (Manchester, UK), Noorderzon Festival (Groningen, Netherlands), OZ Arts Nashville (Nashville, TN), Portland Institute for Contemporary Art (Portland, OR), Santiago a Mil International Theater Festival (Santiago, Chile), Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company (Washington, DC), and Z Space (San Francisco, CA).

Künstlerhaus Mousonturm (Frankfurt, Germany)

Künstlerhaus Mousonturm opened in 1988 as one of the first independent production houses in Germany and is today recognized internationally as an influential and successful independent production centre.  As an “artists’ house” we place recurring exchanges with creative artists, groups and collectives working in the contemporary independent sector in German-speaking, European and extra-European territories at the heart of our programming and productions. Contemporary dance and choreography, performance and innovative forms of international theatre by directors, writers and actors who come from beyond German-speaking territories and can therefore bring us closer to other forms of aesthetic expression and more radical methods of political action form the central impulse of the Mousonturm’s programme. In addition, scope remains for contemporary music, visual arts, film-screenings, concerts and present installations. Beyond this we regard the city and its metropolitan region as a stage, a space for interventions and actions that we regularly wish to perform in and to explore together with its citizens. Matthias Pees has been Künstlerhaus Mousonturm’s Artistic and Managing Director since August 2013.
