FOREVER PUBLIC

Ensuring the future of great, accessible theater for all.

For more than 60 years, The Public Theater has been developing, producing, and presenting groundbreaking theater with the most dynamic artists of our time. Guided by our founding principles that theater is an essential force for change and that art and culture belong to everyone, The Public is dedicated to making art that is of, by, and for all people. From The Delacorte Theater in Central Park to our downtown home at 425 Lafayette Street, our mission is to tell our City’s stories.

Forever Public is an ambitious, multi-year capital campaign with a goal of raising over $150 million to further our mission.

Ways to Give:

Make an online donation to show your support for The Public Theater’s vital mission.

Take A Seat! For a gift of $5,000 or more you can make your mark on history and name a seat at The Delacorte Theater.

We’re delighted to offer a variety of benefits to our Forever Public donors – including naming opportunities, recognition on a prominent donor wall at The Delacorte, invitations to special reopening festivities next summer (outside of our typical Shakespeare in the Park benefits), and more. For additional ways to participate, please contact [email protected].

Your support of Forever Public will go towards a breadth of initiatives:

Nestled under a canopy of majestic trees, The Delacorte Theater is a unique destination in the heart of Central Park. It provides hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers and visitors with the transformative experience of The Public Theater’s Free Shakespeare in the Park.

After six decades, hundreds of performances, and over six million visitors, The Delacorte Theater is undergoing a major makeover.

The re-visioned open-air theater will include a new facade, enhanced accessbility for artists and audiences, improved sustainaiblity, and more, ensuring The Delacorte Theater and the magic of Free Shakespeare in the Park for generations to come.

As our city comes together to rebuild The Delacorte, The Public is building the first-ever permanent endowment Fund for Free Theater.

The Fund will protect the Public's extraordinary free programs:

  • Free Shakespeare in the Park: The largest most accessible program for free theater in New York City.
  • Mobile Unit: Serving a vast cross section of New Yorkers with little or no access to the arts.
  • Public Works: Re-centering communities in our theater-making.

The Public is enormously grateful to all who have so generously supported this Capital Campaign.
